Gymnastics

Hi! I started doing gymnastics in pre-K. I was originally in pre team but then they put me in bronze JO (Junior Olympics). After  a little while it didn’t seem very fun anymore and I decided to stop. I started to miss my teammates and coaches so I decided to start again. I was put in bronze and then I moved to silver. I went to competitions and got to travel to many places. I also went to states competition which was a lot harder than any of my other competitions. I think I did the best in a competition in Savanna, Georgia.

My Backpack Project

In the summer, we read this book called Finding Someplace by Denise Lewis Patrick. Finding Someplace is about a girl named Teresa, Reesie for short. Reesie lives in New Orleands when hurricane Katrina hit. She was staying with her neighbor, Mrs. Martine, when her house flooded her house and they had to escape threw the roof and they got rescued by a boat. I wont give to much info about it because I don’t wasn’t to cause any spoilers. It’s very interesting and is a good book that I think you should read!

When the hurricane hit, Reesie had to evacuate on short notice. She had little time to pack all her belongings in a small back pack. My LA teacher asked us, “What would you pack if you had to leave quickly with only a backpack?” We started drawing things like toothbrush, phones, wallets, and much more.

this is what I did, I know, I know, I’m not good at drawing. But here was our classes backpacks.

this project was really fun. What would you take if you had to evacuate you’re home?

Our teacher also asked us who do you think is the hero of Finding Someplace. We wrote a couple of paragraphs about why do you think their the hero. Here is what I wrote. After we wrote our essays we got them peer edited by people in our class.

Camp Kirkwood

At the beginning of the school year the whole grade went on a 2 day field trip to camp Kirkwood. Days before we were about to leave we we heard that a tropical storm, Idalia, was hitting right were we were going in Watha, NC on August 30. This picture Was taken at the begging of the trip before it started raining.

it was a 2 1/2 hour bus ride. When we arrived it was pouring rain. We had to take whatever bags that were unloaded band go to our cabins. After we got settled we went to lunch. We had Turkey and cheese sandwiches. For people who were vegetarian got grilled cheese sandwiches. There was always a salad bar open too.

After lunch, we split into groups for activities. My group went to the pool. We had to do a swim test where we jump in and then swim to the other end if you didn’t want to take it you would just have to wear a life jacket. The water was cold but it was still fun. The pool is the only activity that’s 2 hours, the others are 1 hour after we finished the pool we did a team building activity.

After that we had spaghetti and garlic bread for dinner. Then we headed to our cabins and showered and changed there was only two showers so we had to go quickly. Then we were supposed to do a night hike but because of the rain you could choose to either wait here a movie or play dodgeball. I chose to watch a movie after the long day we had, also we had to walk through the rain so we were all soaked.

I chose to bunk with Julia, my friend in my cabin. We had lots of fun that night just talking and then went to bed. We woke up at 7:00 am and then headed straight to breakfast. We had cereal for breakfast and then rearranged to our groups. Then went to activitys. I went to the V-swing. We got in our harnesses and you’re being pulled up by all the other people and you unattached your self and you swing, it was like a giant swing.

Then, my group went to play board games in a cabin. We played Sorry, cards and lots more! Then after that, we did the Kanga jump. You might be wondering what that is. It’s basically like a trampoline except its round on the ground.

The next day we also went canoeing! We went in groups of three. Our teacher also went but he went paddle boarding instead. I really wanted to go paddle boarding but we were only allowed to take canoes.

we also went zipping over the lake! It was really fun and there was a short ropes course to get to the top. It was really fun and very pretty to see the lake from above. Even our teachers did it!

Later we got to meet a pig! Her name was bubbles and she was so cute! It was really  funny to see her roll a ball around.

eventually it was time to leave and we went and got seated in the buses. They put on a movie but we couldn’t hear because of the rain. Then we got back to school and got picked up!
